Ignore suggestion.

I wonder due to the fact that so many people try to converse with those ignoring them, whether it would be possible to include for example the letter I next to the users name in the qn combo box if the user is ignoring you, or you are ignoring them, this saying, don't bother trying to talk, as it's a waste of time.
Please discuss, and maybe Admin will think it's worth his time coding.

Good idea. Although I don't think I've ever tried to talk to someone ignoring me since, luckily, there aren't very many, it is still a good idea.

i like it, think it would help quite a bit

Hmmmmm, sounds good, I guess, although I don't see why someone wouldn't remember they are ignoring you, but I guess I can see where that might help.

Seems like a good idea. I usually remember who I'm ignoring and whose ignoring me, but I suppose those of us who ignore or are ignored a lot may have a tougher time. So, yeah, I like it.

mhm, sounds like a good idea. Would be easier to find out who's ignoring you and stuff too. lol

There have been a few times where I've sent qn's and not gotten a reply even after several notes. On those occasions I've had to check the ignore page to see if that person was ignoring me. They weren't, or should I say they were ignoring me but just hadn't put me on ignore. LOL. Anyway, it was a nuisance to go check the ignore list and would have been nice if such a feature were in place.

Hi, all. I'll bring this one up to the other CL's and the admins, and see what kind of answer I get.

I sort of like the idea, but wonder if it would be more practical to just eliminate them from your qn combo box altogether?

I understand what you're saying scot, though it's not what i'd prefer as I'd still rather see everyone who's logged in. Sure you can have that from the top of the homepage, but not if you're in console. plus sometimes it's my prefered method of seeing who's on the site anyway.

Post 11 by Albanac (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 01-Mar-2009 6:45:24

The combobox doesn't show invisibles though Kev, so perhaps it would be an extention of that as, if they are ignoring you they'd want to appear invisible to you anyway.

Post 12 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Sunday, 01-Mar-2009 7:09:58

I understand what you're saying simon, but you can still see their qn, you can still see them in the log in list. If your suggestion worked, and they become invisible to you, they are effectively forcing you to ignore them too, which I don't want to do otherwise I'd choose to do so from the ignore filters. I ignore people by skipping what they say at times, but never do through the system, as I want to choose whether or not I break up the conversation by ignoring what's said, and don't want to be forced to have to fill in gaps for myself.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

I do hope it goes through with the Admins. It's a good idea. I think I understand the whole point of the suggestion now.

I don't know if the admins have worked on this issue or if what I found out tonight has always been the case. I tried a little experiment as if I wanted to send a QN to someone I put on ignore a long time ago. But I could not get his name to show up in the combo box. I couldn't do the same experiment with someone who is ignoring me as none of those people were logged on.

Post 16 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Saturday, 07-Mar-2009 2:44:00

Yeah, it's weird because this week, two days in a row, I got a News Alert, and I wonder why? I'm sure everyone got them, but I wonder if it's programmed that when something in the site changes it sends an alert. There was nothing new in the alerts that I saw, but maybe this is it?

Post 17 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Saturday, 07-Mar-2009 9:04:45

OK, I was able to do the same experiment I talked about above with a user who has me on ignore. Unfortunately, I was able to get his name in the combo box. That doesn't make sense to me. I can't send a qn to someone I am ignoring, which I wouldn't want to do anyway, but I can get the name of someone who is ignoring me in the combo box. So if I didn't know this person had me on ignore, I might be trying to talk to him.

Post 18 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Saturday, 07-Mar-2009 11:01:34

I guess the reason I'd rather some indication other than them just not being there, is that people drop out of the box when they don't' refresh, so this would just be the same, and could be confusing at times. We have indication in there for the state of qn, and status, so a letter for someone ignoring you shouldn't be a big problem.

Post 19 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Saturday, 07-Mar-2009 12:18:29

I agree it should be done. Perhaps IG instead of just I so people won't think the I stands for invisible.

Post 20 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Saturday, 07-Mar-2009 16:12:46

I agree also.

Post 21 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Sunday, 08-Mar-2009 14:39:37

I also almost accidentally sent a message to someone who was ignoring me. This feature should definitely be put in place.

Post 22 by The Great Rabbit (Queen of random) on Sunday, 08-Mar-2009 16:52:31

i like the idea too. i think it'd just make things a little easier sometimes.

Post 23 by CrazedMidget (Sweet fantacy's really do come in small packages!) on Sunday, 08-Mar-2009 18:19:07

yup, good idea

Post 24 by pianogirl (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 10-Mar-2009 14:55:43

I don't know, if they have enough room to write (publics off), (messages off), etc. Why not just write "is ignoring you" in place of a status message. That way anyone will know what it means.
